How to Dress: The Short Man

Alright boys...society may have you believe that being a tall man is ideal, however there are plenty of women, tall or short, who are attracted to a short man! However, you don't have to dress incorrectly if you are short! The best advice I can give you is to find a really good tailor! Have any suit jackets, pants, jeans, or anything else hemmed to fit you correctly!

Your overall goal is to give the illusion that you are elongated. Avoid baggy jeans or anything oversized, including prints, as this will overcome your body. Wear vertical prints and patterns such as pinstripes, flannel, or argyle. You can also draw the eye up and add height by wearing accessories on top. And if you want to add extra height, you can wear a shoe with a substantial heel!

How to Dress: Triangle

The triangle body shape, also known as the pear shape, is bottom heavy with bigger hips, butt, and thighs. However, you have a well-defined waistline. If you find yourself as a pear shape and are feeling down, realize that you are not alone! Some of the hottest celebrities join your ranks: Beyonce, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and the list goes on!

Your overall goal is to enhance and add volume to the upper part of your body while also defining and emphasizing your waist. However, you definitely want to avoid any fabrics or silhouettes that will draw attention to your "saddlebag" region. The good news is that you can wear lots of bold accessories since this will help to draw the eye up!

How to Dress: Inverted Triangle

The inverted triangle, also known as the cone or strawberry shape, is the shape that I believe I am...although my measurements are more hourglass. You are larger on top because of broad shoulder and/or large breasts. You have slim hips but little to no waist definition.

The overall goal for the Inverted Triangle gal is to add more volume to your hip and thigh area in order to balance out your silhouette. Anything that you wear on top and around your shoulder area should have a slimming effect. Be careful with accessories and details that can draw attention to your shoulder area. All of your focus should be on the lower half of your body.

Graphic Work

Recently I worked on two posters for our Fashion Honors Group. It took me awhile to get each to where I wanted them aesthetically. Anything that I didn't know already, I found through tutorials on the internet. The Photoshop Lady helped me through a lot!
The Eco-Chic Fashion Show took place April 14th, it was a fashion show that showcased garments that were purchased at Goodwill and then redesigned.
The Utopia Fashion Show will be showcasing the graduating designers' garments and will be taking place June 8th!
Please let me know your thoughts and ideas, especially with the Utopia one since we are just beginning to advertise it!

Dan Marino Walkabout Autism

Back in January, (before this blog existed), I helped out with the Dan Marino Walkabout Autism. Through the Fashion Honors Group at my school and the Fashion Club President, Ali Marino, we planned and worked on this event.
We partnered with Utrecht Art Supplies in Fort Lauderdale and held a Converse contest. The winning designs that were drawn on the sneakers were displayed at our booth at the event. We also had two Dolphin themed, size 13 pairs that were signed by Dan Marino. We raffled those off to two lucky winners!

The cumulative amount we raised was donated right back to the Dan Marino Foundation. I know I had an absolutely amazing time and it was quite the humbling experience to work with such awesome people in such an awe-inspiring environment. I can't wait to do something like this again!

How to Dress: Rectangle

With the high-waisted trend currently in, us girls with curves envy the rectangular body shape. You can wear and get away with (almost) anything! If you have a rectangle body shape, you have more of a boyish shape in which you are fairly straight up and down. You're not alone! This body shape is actually the most common body type.

The goal for this body shape is to proportionally dress the top and bottom while accentuating your waist area. The only thing to avoid are baggy shapes and styles as this can make your body look even more boyish. Since you can theoretically get away with anything, have fun with the bold colors, hemlines, and fabrics for this season!

How to Dress: Plus Size

As a girl who isn't the smallest thing in the world, I sympathize with the struggles that plus size women go through when trying to find the perfect outfit. Even though everyone says that skinny jeans look good on everybody....they really don't! Here are a few tips for picking out outfits for you voluptuous women!

Your overall goal for this body type is to accentuate the curves that you have in a very flattering way. There is no need to cover up your curves! Avoid bulky and clingy fabrics. Remember: do not be afraid to be adventurous with the different trends! Worn the right way, they can look extremely good on you!
